Peacemaking and Nonviolence Committee
The Peacemaking and Nonviolence Committee was established in 2006 to help the Congregation participate in the work of peacemaking and action for social justice.
We are committed as Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart to integrate our spirituality and our prayer life with our commitment to seek peace and justice for all.
Our committee tries to deepen the understanding of the members of the Congregation and our Associates of today’s concerns and actions related to our four corporate stances:
• against nuclear weapons proliferation
• against capital punishment
• in support of debt cancellation for developing nations, and
• in support of the principles of the Earth Charter
Since 2006, we have provided resources to the members of the Congregation. We have facilitated communication of efforts to advocate for justice and promote peace by the Congregation's members and by Associates. We erected a Peace Pole on our Motherhouse property, and invited the Sisters, staff, and school community to a prayer service for peace. We are presently focusing on creating awareness of and action related to our four corporate stances. We invite our colleagues, our students, and our Associates to participate through prayer, fasting, and in activities related to justice issues and peacemaking.
