There are six autonomous congregations of Grey Nuns that are related by history, heritage, mission, ministry and stem from St. Marguerite d'Youville, "Mother of Universal Charity." The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart are the only congregation whose Motherhouse is in the United States. The other groups have their Motherhouses in Canada. |

Sisters of Charity of Ottawa (SCO) Four Grey Nuns of Montreal, led by Mother Elizabeth Bruyere, founded this community in 1845. They extended service to the poor of Bytown (Ottawa), Ontario, Canada.
