There are six autonomous congregations of Grey Nuns that are related by history, heritage, mission, ministry and stem from St. Marguerite d'Youville, "Mother of Universal Charity." The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart are the only congregation whose Motherhouse is in the United States.  The other groups have their Motherhouses in Canada.

Sisters of Charity of Montreal (SGM)
Original foundation of St. Marguerite d'Youville, founded in 1737 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  Today SGM's serve in Canada, USA, Brazil and Columbia.

Sisters of Charity of St. Hyacinthe (SCSH)

Founded to serve the poor in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada in 1840 at the request of the Bishop.  Today the SCSH's serve in Canada, USA, Haiti.

Sisters of Charity of Ottawa (SCO)

Four Grey Nuns of Montreal, led by Mother Elizabeth Bruyere, founded this community in 1845. They extended service to the poor of Bytown (Ottawa), Ontario, Canada. Today the SCO's serve in Canada, USA, Brazil, Japan, Central Africa, South Africa, Haiti, New Guinea.

Sisters of Charity of Quebec (SCQ)

Four Grey Nuns of Montreal, led by Mother Marcelle Mallet in 1849 were sent to serve the people of Quebec City, Quebec. Today the SCQ's serve in Canada, USA, Japan, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart (GNSH)
Founded in 1921 by 156 Grey Nuns from Ottawa.  This is the only Grey Nun foundation with a Motherhouse in the USA.   Today GNSH serve in the country of Haiti and in the states of Alaska, Georgia, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (GSIC)
Founded in 1926 by 77 Grey Nuns of Ottawa.  The Grey Sisters serve in Canada, The Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
